Beer a traditional Cure
Researchers at Emory recently conducted a research on the remains of nubians datind back thousands of years ago and discovered a high concentration of antibiotics in their reamains and indications that it came from their beer.
The study was led by anthropologist George Armelagos and medicinal chemist Mark Nelson of Paratek Pharmaceuticals, Inc and delineated the act of making antibiotics that dates back to before penicilin was discovered more than two thousand years ago.
The grain used to make the fermented traditional brew contained soil bacteria streptomyces, which produces tetracycline. It is believed the Nubians had full knowledge of the medicinal properties of their brew and thus took advantage of the natural fermentation process.
According to Nelson high concentrations of the antibiotic were found in the remains of children indicating they were using the natural remedy to cure common diseases ailing their community, The Nubian s are not the only culture to achieve better health through consumption of this gruel
Hippocrates used beer as a remedy to facilitate diuresis, reduce fever
and heal wounds. Aretus of Capadocia also recommended it for diabetes
and migraine. So this might be good consideration next time you ponder on whether to have that beer or not..
